In 2005 Café Grumpy opened its first store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The raw and cavernous ground floor space of a corner residential building was turned into a welcoming coffeeshop by opening up the storefront with large windows and providing ample seating. In keeping with the company’s principle of locally roasting and brewing its coffee, the wood and stainless steel serving counter and the corner bench were hand built by the design team in the space.

The café was featured in Seasons 1 and 2 of HBO TV Series Girls.
